Celebrating the Earth in Columbus!

By Brianna Potter, Clean Water Volunteer

The Sierra Club Ohio Chapter had a wonderful time celebrating Earth Day! We lead a number of projects and met lots of great people who care about the environment as much as we do!

We removed litter from the Scioto River, planted beneficial trees and plants at a location on Eakin Road, tabled at Lucky’s Market Volunteer Fair, planted pollinator plants and vegetables in a community garden at Indian Springs Elementary, and celebrated Earth Day at Genoa park hosted by Green Columbus. Here are some photos of our events!

Thank you to Grange Insurance employees and all of the other volunteers who came out to the Scioto River and helped us clean up over 100 bags of trash, not to mention various other large items! Also, a huge thanks to Falters Fine Meats for providing a tasty fuel up after the hard work!

Staffer Nicole Tabit loves getting her hads dirty and teaching students how to proppertly plant veggies at Indian Springs Elementary School! Last year we created a pollinator and vegetable community garden, and this year we went back to get it up and ready for spring. The students at ISE were awesome!

During April we planted 200 trees at a site on Eakin Road! This land has historically been used as an illegal dump site, including trespassing by ATV users, and illegal burning. In March volunteers removed trash and honeysuckle! This location is need a lot of restoration, events will continue here all year long.
