For the past several years the partnership between Aveda Network for Good and Sierra Club has done so much to educate, engage, and empower people to restore, improve, and protect Ohio’s waterways. One of the most creative aspects of Aveda Earth Month is the rain barrel art that is created for rain barrel art raffles. Salons wishing to participate receive a sanded and primed 55 gallon plastic, food-grade barrel to turn into a work of art. These barrels are then raffled off to raise support for Sierra Club’s Clean Water Campaign, and awareness for clean water.
Winners of these raffles not only get to take home a piece of art, but by installing a rain barrel they prevent the amount of water runoff that causes erosion and sewer overflows, and have a safe water source to use on their lawn and garden. Those who install rain barrels are conserving water and reducing their water bill, while becoming an environmental steward for their neighborhood.
This past April a total of forty-five Aveda Salons across Ohio participated in the rain barrel art raffles, decorating a total of sixty-two rain barrels. The beautiful artwork has been compiled into a video to display the hard work and creativity of those involved. Thank you to the artists, salons and volunteers that made Earth Month 2017 such a success!
