WNC Sierra Club Monthly Program - Wed. Jan 3 - Our WNC Biodiversity: A Hotspot for Creatures Great and Small

Jan. 3 at 7 p.m. at UNCA's Reuter Center on Campus View Road and on Zoom

The Southern Appalachians are a global biodiversity hotspot — one of the most biologically diverse places in the temperate world. In our rivers and streams, there are more species of freshwater fish, mussels, and crayfish than anywhere else on the planet.

In this discussion with Will Harlan of the Center for Biological Diversity, we will celebrate our astonishing local biodiversity, and we will also discuss global biodiversity and the interconnections between the extinction crisis and the climate crisis.

Will Harlan is the Southeast Director and Senior Scientist at the Center for Biological Diversity. He is the acclaimed, award-winning author of Untamed: The Wildest Woman in America and the Fight for Cumberland Island, and his work has appeared in The New York Times and National Geographic

The WNC Sierra Club meets monthly in Room 102 at UNCA’s Reuter Center/OLLI on 300 Campus View Rd. and simultaneously on Zoom. Click here to join the Zoom meeting.
