Hike in Pisgah National Forest and visit 4 lesser known waterfalls near the Cradle of Forestry!
This hike will take us to 4 waterfalls: Discovery Falls, Log Hollow Falls, Upper Log Hollow Falls, and Logging Road Falls. All on a short hike just below the Cradle of Forestry with beautiful views of the forest and falls.
We will go out a former logging road and then go on an unmarked trail to Discovery Falls, which is a 75-foot gently cascading waterfall. We will return to the logging road and continue to Log Hollow Falls, which is a 30-foot waterfall along the road. We will then go up a trail to the Upper Falls, which is 20 feet high and secluded in the woods, but more impressive. We will return to the logging road and then go the last waterfall, Logging Road Falls which is 75 feet high. This waterfall will be better seen in its entirety given that the leaves have fallen. Along the way out we will get good views of Looking Glass in the distance. We will return along the Headwaters Road with an option to take part of the Seniard Ridge trail back. The total distance is around 5.4 miles and 700 feet.
We will rendezvous in Asheville at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 28. After gathering and sorting out carpooling, we will then drive towards Brevard and into the Pisgah National Forest. The drive takes approximately 45 minutes. We will have a second meeting spot at the rear of the parking lot behind the Pisgah Ranger Station/Visitor Center at 9:45 a.m. We will all meet there, including those not meeting in Asheville so we can all carpool to the parking spot along FS475B at the trail head. We will start the hike around at 10 a.m. We will be back to Asheville by 3 p.m.
