Hear award-winning investigative reporter Jack Igelman recount the historic threats to the French Broad and the ongoing effort to secure the designation of Wild and Scenic River for the North Fork. In 1966, TVA proposed dams on 14 tributaries of the river, but was stopped through local activism. Another, smaller proposal in the 1980s likewise failed.
Igelman is a reporter with Carolina Public Press and also teaches economics at Warren-Wilson College. He will speak on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at 7 pm at UNCA and on Zoom.
The WNC Sierra Club meets monthly in Room 102 at UNCA’s Reuter Center on Campus Drive and simultaneously on Zoom. Register in advance for the Zoom meeting or visit WNCSierraClub.org.
