Please make comments HERE https://tvaforms.wufoo.com/forms/mjh25ba0ex7kt0/ on the TVA's extensive power line expansion plans in Cherokee County NC. The deadline is Monday, 2/20/23. In summary:

Talking Points for objection:

  • 27 miles of 187.5 foot wide right of way is required. 13-14 miles is new.
  • National forest lands are included.
  • The project is slated to cross dozens of waterbodies in North Carolina and Tennessee.
  • Many of these crossings are within a few hundred yards of each other.
  • Some of the affected tributaries are designated as “high quality waters” for purposes of state anti-degradation requirements.
  • The project may adversely affect listed species, including the Cumberland bean and Ruth’s golden aster.
  • The mentioned Ranger electrical substation currently has a crypto mine co-located on power company property. A subsidiary of the crypto mine owns a vacant lot next door as well.
  • The mentioned Harshaw electrical substation directly powers the 50 MW Harshaw Rd crypto mine.
