Celebrate Earth Day with YOUR N.C. Sierra Club Group

Looking for a fun and educational way to "explore, enjoy and protect our planet" for Earth Day 2023? Sierra Club Groups across North Carolina are hosting and participating in a variety of events on and around Earth Day, April 22 - and you're invited!

Nationally, the Sierra Club is participating in Drive Electric Earth Day events throughout the month, with at least half a dozen scheduled in North Carolina. Look for one near you!

Locally, North Carolina's Sierra Club Groups have these events on tap. For updates and more information, check our calendar or get in touch directly with your Group.

Cape Fear Group (Bladen, Brunswick, Columbus, Duplin, New Hanover, Pender, and Robeson counties)

The Cape Fear Group will be part of the Wilmington Earth Day Alliance Festival from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at Long Leaf Park in Wilmington. Group members will have information about the Group's priorities, including green, affordable energy; opposition to wood pellets and PFAS; and preservation of habitat. There will also be nature-related games and free science books available for the kids!

Croatan Group (Carteret, Craven, Jones, Onslow, and Pamlico counties)

The Group is hosting/co-hosting several events, most notably a Renewable Energy Symposium at Carteret Community College on Thursday, April 20. This free event offers speakers, businesses and utilities, and information tabling with lots of details on clean energy for your home, work and community.

Other events include:

Cypress Group (Beaufort, Bertie, Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Greene, Hertford, Hyde, Lenoir, Martin, Northampton, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Pitt, Tyrrell, Washington, and Wayne counties)

The Cypress Group (pictured at bottom last year) will participate in Greenville's city-wide Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 22. The event follows the worldwide Earth Day 2023 theme of "Invest in Our Planet," with tours of an ecologically friendly stormwater management system, EV demonstrations, exhibits of native plants for home gardeners, "upcycled" fashion from Eastern Carolina University students, free kayaking and paddle-boating on the Tar River, and much more!

Foothills Group (Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Stokes, Surry, and Yadkin counties)

The Foothills Group is participating in three events with tabling and volunteers to provide information about hiking, conservation and exploration of great areas around North Carolina.

Orange-Chatham Group (Alamance, Caswell, Chatham, and Orange counties)

On Thursday, April 27, at 7 p.m. the Orange-Chatham Group will host a virtual talk with Lisa Sorg, environmental reporter for NC Newsline (formerly NC Policy Watch). Lisa has spent many years covering environmental issues across North Carolina, earning the Sierra Club's Distinguished Service Award in 2019. She'll discuss how she became an environmental reporter and why, and how she addresses the challenges of covering such an important beat. Lisa will also provide information on how we can investigate and advocate around environmental issues in our area.
