A new federal strategy to curb contamination from "forever chemicals" is a welcome step in protecting people and the environment, the N.C. Sierra Club said Monday (Oct. 18).
The plan from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency was released Monday, with EPA Secretary Michael Regan joining Gov. Roy Cooper for an in-person announcement in Raleigh. Regan, a North Carolina native, was head of the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) before joining the Biden administration.
"We’re pleased to see the EPA moving forward on holding polluters accountable for releasing forever chemicals into the environment," said Cynthia Satterfield, director of the N.C. Sierra Club. "We hope this move will lead to less PFAS pollution being released into North Carolina’s water and air.”
