Legislative Update: Lull allows time for education on energy bill

This was a slower week at the legislature for environmental bills. None of the bills that the Sierra Club is following were taken up.

That gives us some time to educate senators about legislation that they will soon be voting on - including H 951, “Modernize Energy Generation,” that was recently approved by the House. The Sierra Club opposes the bill because, among many problems, it would lock North Carolina into continued reliance on burning fracked gas instead of transitioning to clean energy.

H 951 needs a total rewrite since it currently would do more harm than good and could prevent the state from meeting Governor Cooper’s climate goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in line with the Paris Climate Agreement.

Opportunity for Action

Please use our action alert to contact your senator to ask them to oppose H 951.
