Gov. Roy Cooper and the governors of Maryland and Virginia today announced a three-state collaboration to advance offshore wind projects in the region, which will help promote the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic United States as a hub for offshore wind energy and industry.
Erin Carey, coastal programs director for the N.C. Sierra Club, issued the following statement in response:
"The impacts of the climate crisis are felt especially hard in North Carolina and other Mid-Atlantic coastal states. So it makes sense for these states to unite to address climate change by supporting offshore wind energy," said Erin Carey, coastal programs director for the N.C. Sierra Club.
"This regional collaboration will make the Mid-Atlantic more attractive as a location for offshore wind companies and their supply chain industries, which could create thousands of jobs in North Carolina as it reduces our dependence on dirty fossil fuels."
