This week was a quiet one at the N.C. General Assembly. But indications are that next week will be busy as the Senate works towards a budget and both chambers move bills through committees in an effort to pass them before the end of the session. There is no set end date for the 2019 session but legislative leaders have hinted that they aim to finish in the early part of this summer.
Opportunity for Action
S 377, Military Base Protection Act, would effectively ban wind energy in eastern North Carolina and much of the rest of the state. On the proposed wind ban map, wind energy would be disallowed in the red areas.
Although this bill did not pass the Senate in time to make the crossover deadline it might be changed so that it can be kept alive for the biennium. If that happens the Senate may quickly bring it up for a vote as soon as next week. Please ask your senator to protect clean energy by opposing Senate Bill 377 in whatever form it may take.
