Barbara Leary - ECOS Environmentalist of the Year 2024
After 10 years of service as Chair of the Sacramento Executive Committee I will be moving on to serve on the Folsom City Council as a newly elected member representing District 4 there. I’m proud of the work that has been accomplished by the Sacramento group under my leadership. The Groups efforts have included working on local Climate Action Plans, supporting public transit, organizing member activities such as tree plantings and hikes with the Sacramento Valley Conservancy and the Sacramento Tree Foundation, and supporting the efforts of like-minded organizations in preserving and protecting the American River as well as our important open spaces, waterways, and habitat conservation areas. I was able to initiate many connections throughout the region, giving our group the opportunity to weigh in on numerous actions to support our environment and I am hopeful that this work will continue with those who are committed to serve this coming year on our Executive Committee. It’s true that we are all stronger together - our most successful involvement has taken place as a result of the coalitions we have entered into.
