CANDIDATE STATEMENTS

Executive Committee (ExCom) members meet once per month to authorize club actions and assist activities of other Eastern Missouri Group (EMG) members.

There are seven voting members on the Excom. This year there are four vacancies but only three candidates, thus there is a write in option. Voting instructions are given on the ballot (see page 13).

The following are statements by candidates for the ExCom, listed in alphabetical order.

John Feldmann John Feldmann

I've been a member of Sierra Club for about 30 years. Over the last six years I've been serving on the Missouri Sierra Club Executive Committee (Excom) . I'm ending that term this year and have decided to run for the Eastern Missouri Group Excom. While on the Missouri Chapter Excom I've been the political committee chair and more recently the membership chair. I also am working on the trails committee because of my interest in spending more time outdoors, especially after recently retiring.

I hope to help the EMG get more people actively involved in the committees and leadership opportunities going forward. We need more new faces involved in the SC to keep the organization strong and evolving.

Paul Ohlendorf Paul Ohlendorf

My name is Paul Ohlendorf and I am a candidate for the Eastern Missouri Group Executive Committee. I have been a member of the Sierra Club for 20 plus years. It has been a big part of my life. I am an active member of the Outings Committee and the Trails Committee. I feel I would be a good liaison between the three committees. The environment and conservation of land especially within the state is very important to me. I would like to utilize social media to educate and promote membership of like minded people. Your vote would be greatly appreciated.

Henry Robertson Henry Robertson

I stepped down from Excom for several years but was appointed last year to fill a vacancy. Now I'm offering myself for election again. I also serve at the Chapter (state) level on Excom and as Energy Chair.

I often represent the Club as an attorney with Great Rivers Environmental Law Center. There I work on energy issues, trying to get Ameren and our other electric utilities to use more renewable energy and offer energy efficiency programs to help customers save energy and money. I've also helped citizens in St. Louis City and Olivette pass park protection ballot measures so that attempts to privatize public parks must be put to a vote of the people.

Excom, however, is about the mundane but necessary job of keeping EMG ticking—minding the budget, outings, lemonade sales, monthly meetings, newsletters, elections, etc., and looking for ways to attract a younger, more diverse membership. Your help is always welcome.

Serving on Excom is a way for me to give back in return for being able to do what I care about in the name of an active, effective organization.
