This year we will be returning to Cuivre River State Park for the annual fall campout, October 16-18. Located just 50 miles north of Saint Louis near Troy, it is one of the state's largest and most rugged parks. You will find Cuivre River State Park to be an Ozarklike island in north Missouri's rolling plains. The park's two wild areas provide hiking, backpacking, photography and wildlife observation. Three natural areas feature native prairie, sinkhole ponds, woodlands and a clear, rock-bottomed stream. Big Sugar Creek is one of the finest undisturbed streams left in northeastern Missouri. Several trails lead through the Lincoln Hills Natural Area and its many unique natural features.
No need to pitch a tent and sleep on the ground; we have reserved the cabins in Camp Sherwood. There will be hikes, activities for the whole family, good food, a bonfire, a silent auction, and a chance to form new friendships and renew old ones.
The campout is put together by volunteers and all participants help out in some way. If you would like to lead an outing, assist with children's activities, plan or supervise meals, contribute items to our silent auction, or just want to assist with odd jobs such as camp preparation or clean-up, we will really appreciate it.
Please contact the Sierra Club office at (314) 644-0890 or emg.sierraclub@earthlink.net with questions or to volunteer. We look forward to seeing you there October 16-18!
