Political activity is what brings change to government policy. This specifically affects the government attitude and action toward the environment. Complaints to bureaucrats and the legislature may occasionally correct or mitigate specific destructive acts against the natural world, but this does not change the established policy of an anti-environmental government. The only way to change the public policy is to elect legislators and administrators who intend to conserve and protect the environment deliberately.
Protecting the environment through government policy can only be accomplished by changing to legislators who will vote according to their concerns for natural preservation. We must change the state government in order to save the environment. We need legislators who will vote right. We will need a state governor who will budget money and appoint people to take care of the world we live in. We have not had enough of these folks.
To conduct a potent political effort to change the governing and legislative personnel in the state and federal government, the EMG political committee needs members willing to work at it. We will not change the Missouri Legislature orders to those favoring environmental protection. Our Political Committee needs volunteers to accomplish the many necessary tasks during campaigns.
The political committee needs people who will gather information about candidates. They will write the candidate profiles. They will constitute our Research Team. Furthermore the committee needs volunteers who will help the endorsed candidates with canvassing, telephoning, mailing, and so on. These folks would make up our Tactical Team.
The National Sierra Club Political Committee in the online Clubhouse advises all groups that showing endorsed candidates that the Sierra Club really supports them by working in their campaigns goes a long way toward leading them into real concern for the environment and regard for the Sierra Club. It means as much to them as the endorsement does. The folks we might send them would help get out the vote for them.
The EMG Political Committee can find a useful place for any volunteer, whether in research tactical work or recruiting campaigners. Obviously the more volunteers we have, the more we can really accomplish.
So this is a call for Sierra Club members to come help the Political Committee somehow. We can find you the job you would prefer to do. We can assign you to a candidate that you like. To volunteer, you can call Del Johnson at 314-968-1246 or Mac Dillon at 314-726-0390. Become an agent of change yourself.
