The April 26 General Meeting will be sponsored by the Outings Committee and will host a speaker and our Annual Swap Meet.
Jo Schaper, a long-time springs enthusiast and member of numerous caving organizations will speak on Ozark springs, caves, karst and balancing the study, recreational opportunities and conservation of these fragile resources.
If you've ever had anything you've wanted to ask a cave woman, bring your questions, and prepare for a lively presentation and discussion!
The Annual Swap Meet is our "garage sale" event where you can bring your outdoor gear to swap or sell. No reservations necessary, entry is free and it's open to the public!
The May 24 General Meeting will host our own Ken Schechtman, PhD, with a presentation titled "Nuclear Power on a Warming Planet: The Parameters of Enlightened Debate."
Specific topics of discussion will include:
- An overview of where we stand on nuclear power, energy use (fossil and renewable) in general, carbon emissions, and the relative economics of key energy options.
- Barriers to the reduction of carbon emissions.
- The good and the bad of nuclear power.
- Suggestions on what environmentalists should do.
