January Speaker
Our speakers at the January general meeting will be Steve Nagle and Dave Wilson, Director and Assistant Director of Planning, East-West Gateway Council of Governments Steve had this to say about his topic:
"We refer to this project as Water Quality Coordinating for the Lower Meramec River- taking a comprehensive watershed approach for the Lower Meramec River in an urbanizing environment. Our primary geographic focus is on the sub-watershed areas of Calvey, LaBarque, and Fox Creeks all of which flow into the Meramec River and traverse three counties.
What we hope to achieve with this collaborative research and planning project is:
- to improve water quality and protect aquatic diversity unique to the Lower Meramec through development of a framework for watershed planning in each sub watershed.
- to develop a watershed planning process that can be replicated throughout the region especially in the Meramec Basin.
- to balance conservation and growth by identifying and encouraging land use policies protective of the resources via best management practices.
- to provide a unified working database of resource information on the Meramec River ecosystem.
We have been working the past several months on resource reconnaissance and inventory as well as holding meetings with stakeholders including public officials, property owners and other agency participants.
This is an exiting project for us and fits into our overall regional modeling initiative and development of future land-use scenarios."
