Joint Meeting with the EMG and the St. Louis Audobon Society

On March 25 the EMG will have a joint meeting with the St. Louis Audobon Society at the Brentwood Community Center. Susan Flader, professor of history at the University of Missouri-Columbia, will discuss the life and thoughts of Aldo Leopold and how they translate to our current challenges in Missouri.

Professor Flader teaches American and world environmental history and the history of Missouri and the American West. She has published several books and numerous articles on the career and thought of Aldo Leopold, including Thinking Like a Mountain (1974/1994) and The River of the Mother of God (1991), and edited works such as The Great Lakes Forest (1983), Exploring Missouri's Legacy: State Parks and Historic Sites (1992), and Toward Sustainability for Missouri Forests (forthcoming). She has served as president of the American Society for Environmental History (1995-1997) and the Missouri Parks Association (1982-1986 and 1998-2002) and on the boards of numerous other national and state organizations, including the National Audubon Society, Audubon Missouri, the American Forestry Association, the Forest History Society, the Aldo Leopold Foundation, the L-A-D Foundation, and the Citizens Committee for Soil, Water and State Parks. She has received numerous national and state awards for conservation action.

The meeting will be be held from 7:30 pm to 9:00. The Brentwood Community Center is at 2505 South Brentwood Boulevard north of the intersection of Brentwood and Manchester Avenue.
