Nancy von Brecht, Executive Director of Forest ReLeaf of Missouri, will provide an overview of this unique, statewide resource. Founded in 1993, Forest ReLeaf is a St. Louis based not-for-profit organization. Its mission is to guide and inspire personal and community stewardship of the trees and forests in Missouri and surrounding communities. This mission is accomplished through a variety of tree-planting programs and forestry initiatives.

Project CommuniTree, the region's only community-assisted tree nursery, is Forest ReLeaf's flagship program. The 10-acre nursery is located in Berkeley. It was established in 1996 in partnership with the National Tree Trust and Lambert St. Louis International Airport; the airport provides noise-abatement property for the nursery at no cost. Also known as a regional growing-out station, Project CommuniTree is a site where seedlings provided by the National Tree Trust and the Missouri Department of Conservation are grown into viable young trees for planting on public or not-for-profit properties. Since the first distribution in the fall of 1998, Forest ReLeaf has provided over 17,000 trees at no cost to community groups. Scott Wagner, staff forester for the organization, will join von Brecht for the presentation and be on hand to answer questions afterwards.

The meeting will be held at Litzsinger School, at Litzsinger and Lindbergh, Thursday evening August 28, from 7:30 to 9:00 pm.
