Minneapolis, MN – Today, the Sierra Club North Star Chapter announced its endorsement in the City of Minneapolis Mayoral race in a statement by Michelle Hesterberg, Co-Chair of the chapter’s Minneapolis Political Committee:

“Today we are thrilled to announce our endorsement of Kate Knuth for Mayor of Minneapolis.
“Minneapolis needs a Mayor with a positive vision for a just, equitable and sustainable future. Kate Knuth has that vision, plus the skills and commitment to follow through to make it real. Kate is a person of substance who takes responsibility and leads from conviction, not political expediency. Kate is a proven leader who can work with others. Her experience as a successful progressive legislator will be valuable as she works to rebuild relationships in City Hall, at the State Capitol and in the community.
“When it comes to climate action, Kate Knuth knows that progressive cities can and must lead by example. Big promises and political spin aren’t enough. Her track record shows that she’s ready to lead Minneapolis into a cleaner, greener future — and set that example for other cities in our region and beyond.
“Kate Knuth’s strong record on environmental justice demonstrates how she will tackle injustice in other areas. In a time when Minneapolis is in the headlines for all the wrong reasons, we must not allow ourselves to be distracted by fear. Minneapolis needs a mayor who is ready and willing to rise to — not shrink from — this moment, and address long-neglected racial and economic disparities in our city. Kate is that mayor. She’s committed to building toward a future where everyone is safe, including reimagining our public safety systems that are failing BIPOC communities, so that everyone can thrive."
