Tell President Biden Shut Down Line 5: Despite Enbridge's terrible track record, the massive Canadian pipeline company's Line 5 oil pipeline continues to illegally operate through the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa's tribal lands in Wisconsin and the Straits of Mackinac in Michigan.
It's time for President Biden to #ShutDownLine5. Take action below, and follow the campaign to shut down Enbridge Line 5 here.
Southeast Michiganders continue to face disproportionate asthma and lung cancer rates due to ozone pollution. Demand the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency protect Southeast Michigan communities from toxic ozone pollution by submitting a comment at the link below. Learn about the impact of ozone pollution and why action is needed now at this link.
Tell Lawmakers: Hold Our Michigan Electric Utilities Accountable. During the past two weeks ice storms knocked out power to more than 600,000 DTE and 200,000 Consumers Energy ratepayers in Michigan. Michigan’s utilities have a responsibility to provide affordable energy that doesn’t damage our health or climate. It's time for our lawmakers to hold DTE and Consumers Energy accountable. Take action today by sending a message to your State Senator and Representative demanding both utilities be held accountable to the public for their high rates and unreliable service. Listen to Michigan Chapter Executive Committee member and Washtenaw County Commissioner Yousef Rabhi talk about this issue on Michigan Radio.
Plans are underway for Earth Day and Earth Month Celebrations across Michigan, including the Oakland County Climate March, Rally and Fair on April 22.

The Michigan Chapter staff and volunteers fight every day to stop the flow of oil through the aging Enbridge Line 5 oil pipeline, move Michigan beyond fossil fuels and toward clean energy, safeguard the Great Lakes, increase and leverage political power in Michigan, and protect our state's forests and wild places.

The Problem With Burning Plastic Waste: During the December 2022 lame-duck session, the Michigan legislature passed a law allowing the pyrolysis of plastics, over the opposition of Sierra Club and the entire environmental community. The problems with “chemical recycling” or pyrolysis are substantial. If people mistakenly believe plastics can be recycled, there is less incentive to reduce the production of more plastics. Learn about this troubling issue here.
VOTE in the Sierra Club National Board Election: The national Sierra Club Board of Directors election is underway, and your vote matters! Members will receive the ballot in early March either by mail or electronically (if they selected this option).
