Tell the EPA to Protect Southeast Michigan from Ozone Pollution!

Southeast Michiganders continue to face disproportionate asthma and lung cancer rates due to ozone pollution. In 2021, the rate of asthma hospitalizations in Detroit was four times the Michigan average. Yet, instead of prioritizing action to protect these communities, the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes & Energy (EGLE) is trying to place the blame on wildfires in Canada and is proposing that they do nothing. The Sierra Club Michigan Chapter is determined to stop this. The EPA has the power to approve or deny EGLE’s proposal, and they are accepting public comments until March 6 (that’s Monday!).

Submit a comment TODAY and demand the EPA protect Southeast Michigan communities from toxic ozone pollution. Instructions, talking points, and example comments can be found HERE

Read more about why this matters in the oped by Rep. Rashida Tlaib and Nick Leonard from the Great Lakes Environmental Law Center.
