Create Your Environmental Legacy with the Michigan Chapter

Create Your Environmental Legacy

You can make a difference for generations to come by remembering the Sierra Club Michigan Chapter in your will or estate plans.

When Rachel Carson, noted author and marine biologist, died of cancer at the age of 56 in 1964, she left a substantial bequest to Sierra Club including the royalties from the future sales of her book, Silent Spring. It was her legacy that led Sierra Club to create the Rachel Carson Society.

By naming the Sierra Club Michigan Chapter in your will or estate plans, you become a member of Sierra Club’s Rachel Carson Society that honors and recognizes individuals like yourself who commit to protecting Michigan’s wild places and our Great Lakes.  Imagine how much good and change could be done when you remembered the Sierra Club Michigan in our will or estate plans. You can create an immeasurable impact!

Bequests to the Michigan Chapter support the conservation work to protect our Great Lakes State. For more information, contact laura.zylstra@sierraclub.org.

“The lasting pleasures of contact with the natural world are not reserved for scientists but are available to anyone who will place himself under the influence of earth, sea, and sky, and their amazing life.”
– Rachel Carson

Commemorative and Memorial Gifts

Honoring special people by preserving the beauty of nature.

Commemorative gifts are a thoughtful way to honor a loved one or friend by celebrating a special occasion or commemorating a milestone, such as a birthday, wedding, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, graduation or anniversary.

Making a memorial gift for a family member or close friend is a meaningful way to honor and remember that loved one and affirm the environmental values shared with the individual being honored. The donor may choose for a card to be sent in their name to a someone close to the individual being remembered, informing them of the gift.
