The Fight Against Line 5 Goes International: As global leaders gathered at The United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 15) in Montreal to create a new 10-year plan to reverse the accelerating loss of life on Earth, Sierra Club and partners joined mobilization efforts to call attention to the threat Enbridge’s fossil fuel pipelines pose to biodiversity, climate and human health. Collaboration among experts, indigenous organizers and activists from both the U.S. and Canada helped raise awareness of the major threat posed by Line 5 and the need for the U.S. and Canada to work together to shut it down. Learn more about this binational effort here.

Legislative Lame Duck Shenanigans: This year’s lame duck session was “lame”, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t moments of political gamesmanship. During this time, the Sierra Club was watching for movement on legislation around the solid waste package rewrite (referred to as “part 115”), Underground Storage Tanks and the bad aggregate mining bill. Read about the good and the bad during the last weeks of the 101st Legislature here.

Thank you to all the Sierra Club members who supported our efforts this year!
