Summer is well underway and that means Sierra Club Michigan Chapter is busy leading rain garden installations across the city of Detroit. Eight new rain gardens designed and installed by Detroit residents were added this year through the Rain Gardens to the Rescue program. Now in its eighth year, Rain Gardens to the Rescue continues to educate Detroit residents about rain gardens, Detroit’s combined sewage overflow system and actions they can take to protect the Great Lakes. In addition to our residential work, we installed three large-scale rain gardens at Detroit houses of worship thanks to our partnership with the National Wildlife Federation. We invite you to show your love for the Great Lakes by volunteering to install a rain garden at the Marygrove Campus on September 9 and 10.
