Perhaps you are among the many who are getting into that crisp Autumn "vibe" these days. Extended beautiful weather almost made us forget the serious lack of rain these last two weeks. Mother Nature at her idiosyncratic best. Whatever your take on this Fall weather, we hope you renew your love of nature and the environment by viewing vibrant tree colors, enjoying scents of dried leaves and furled plants, and finding new ways to support Team Earth in the climate-change race to survival.
That's just what you may want to be doing when Just Zero brings its informational show to town on Zoom on November 13, 14 and 15. You will find more information here.
Just Zero states it "works alongside communities, policy makers, scientists, educators, organizers, and others to implement just and equitable solutions to climate-damaging and toxic production, consumption, and waste disposal practices." This sounds like a worthy claim to look at seriously, and with a desire to learn.
For more about what Just Zero is and what it does, explore here. We'll be right along beside you.
In the world of updates, in September, the Biden Administration gave final approval to US Wind's Construction and Operations Plan for an offshore wind project in Maryland. The Sierra Club released a statement of support for the project. Christina Hulslander, Chair of our Lower Eastern Shore Group, along with other SC leaders, expressed clearly the existential threat we face from climate change, and the need to support clean energy, even when that is a difficult choice for many to make. What we need? Or what we want?
If you would like to read that statement, you may so here. The Lower Eastern Shore Group is proud of Christina and her leadership. Thank you, Madam Chair, for all you do.
Additionally, the Biden Administration's Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is currently accepting public comments on potential offshore wind leasing areas off the Central Atlantic coastal states of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, North Carolina and Virginia.
Take Action NOW!
You can submit a public comment here in support of offshore wind off the coast of Maryland. If you have the time to do so, add a personalized message to have more influence. Comments are due on October 21st, so submit yours today!
Thanks for all you do, too, for the environment,
Jacky Grindrod
Vice-Chair
Sierra Club Lower Eastern Shore Group
