The next time we go out to spread the word on escaping the plastics prison we are entangled in will be at the historic Germantown School on Trappe Road in Berlin for Family Fun Day on Saturday, June 15th from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Scroll down to our calendarhereand see details.
To visit the Germantown School is to walk back in time when one-room classrooms served children of widely varying ages, all at once and quite admirably. It's a small museum now, flush with pictures and profiles of the very people who inhabited the wide-spread Germantown neigborhood. That neighborhood stands today as a reminder of the importance of preserving historic cultural heritage as well as of protecting those swaths of precious forest that make the area a quiet, peaceful retreat. Come see for yourself on Saturday!
But there's something else to address right now, something not fun, but very important. It's an alert (with regrettable short notice from this column) as follows:
From the Maryland Dept. of the Environment: An Informational Meeting will be held on June 13, 2024 at the Ocean City Convention Center, Rooms 201 and 202, located at 4001 Coastal Highway, Ocean City, Maryland 21842.
The Informational Meeting will consist of an open house format poster session beginning at 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., followed by a question and answer session from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The bare fact of the matter is that we don't have time left to quibble over ocean views being "somewhat," "tangetially", or "a tiny bit" impacted. We need to adopt every source of wind, solar, and other sustainable energy that we can, as quickly as we can. The dangers of sea level rise are known and visible all around us, yet we still hear people complain about a speck in the distance.
We urge you to attend tomorrow night if you can, and to pay close attention to this issue going forward. Voice your support for wind and solar energy whenever and wherever you can. Please register here if you can attend.
That's all for now, folks. Thank you for all you do for the environment,
