Re: Testimony in Support of LD 347 An Act To Facilitate Maine’s Climate Goals by Encouraging Use of Electric Vehicles
Senator Lawrence, Representative Berry, and members of the Committee on Energy, Utilities and Technology: my name is David Gibson, and I represent Sierra Club Maine and our 22,000 supporters and members across the state. We voice our support for this legislation: LD 347 An Act To Facilitate Maine’s Climate Goals by Encouraging Use of Electric Vehicles.
Transportation comprises a significant portion of Maine’s greenhouse gas emissions. Every effort should be made to reduce transportation emissions; electric vehicles are a critical step forward in these efforts. This bill will help incentivize the installation of electric vehicle charging infrastructure and reduce costs for charging. It provides the opportunity to encourage charging at specific times of day, when electricity is most plentiful, if a time-of-use rate is created by the utilities and PUC.
