Legislative Update - 6 weeks in

Well, we’re six week in to the 2018 Louisiana Legislative Regular Session, and the women and men in Baton Rouge have been busy.

 

Here’s an update of the high priority legislation we’re tracking for you this session:

 

HIGH PRIORITY

OPPOSE

SB 490 - WATER/WATERWAYS: Exempts the Comite River from certain provisions of the Louisiana Scenic Rivers Act for a set period of time.

  • Passed the Senate, Scheduled for House floor debate on 04/30/18. ** Please call your legislators and tell them to vote NO on SB 490! **

 

HB 727 - CRIME: Provides relative to unauthorized entry of and criminal damage to a critical infrastructure

  • Passed the House (yeas 97, nays 3), referred to the Senate Committee on Judiciary C.  ** Please call your legislators and tell them to vote NO on HB 727! **

 

HB 411 - WATERWAYS/SCENIC RIVERS: Exempts the Tickfaw River from certain restrictions of the Natural and Scenic Rivers Program

  • Passed the House, referred to the Senate Committee on Natural Resources.

 

HB 119 - MINERALS: Prohibits the commissioner of conservation from regulating the hours of operation of certain facilities receiving exploration and production waste

  • Passed the House, referred to the Senate Committee on Natural Resources.

HB 431 - ENVIRONMENT/AIR: Prohibits the open burning of munitions and waste explosives

  • Involuntarily deferred in House Natural Resources and Environment committee

 

HB 863 - ENVIRONMENT/AIR: Provides relative to facility air quality monitoring

  • referred to the House Committee on Natural Resources and Environment.

 

HB 180 - WATER/RESOURCES: Provides for the groundwater resources in and the commissioners of the Capital Area Groundwater Conservation District

  • Involuntarily deferred in House Natural Resources and Environment committee.

 

HB 829 - WATER/DRINKING WATER: Provides for public water supply testing by public water systems

  • Referred to the House Committee on Health and Welfare.

 

HB 633 - WATER/DRINKING WATER: Requires lead water testing for public facilities

  • Reported out of House Committee on Health and Welfare, Read by title, amended, returned to the calendar.

 

HB 635 - PUBLIC HEALTH: Provides relative to the disproportionate impact of environmental and public health issues on certain communities

  • Referred to the House Committee on Appropriations.

 

SCR 5 - WATER/WATERWAYS: Expresses opposition to the "One Lake" project proposing to dam the Pearl River and to build a 1,500 acre lake near Jackson, Mississippi and requests the United States Army Corps of Engineers to deny a pending permit for the project.
