One more thing...Keller Ski Hut is a work in progress. Any DONATION you can give will be greatly appreciated. No amount is to small...Thank you.
Work Parties: Work Parties are typically held a few times each year and are a great way to get involved and meet new friends.
Please join us: To keep the 85+ year legacy of Keller Peak Ski Hut moving forward, we are seeking new Hut Hosts and trade professionals (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, etc).
Hut Host Training: If you are interested in becoming a Hut Host or want to join one of our training weekends, contact Yunida Cheng at kellerskihutouting@gmail.com.
Open Weekends
Keller will be open many weekends of the year. Guests are welcome from 10:00 AM Saturday until 3:00 PM Sunday. Participants must bring their own food, sleeping bag/bedding, and personal items. Foam sleeping pads are provided.
Operation and Responsibility
The hut is avaliable for use by all members of the Sierra Club who may bring 2 non-member guests each. On open weekends, the Hut Host reserves the right to limit the number of participants on a first come first served basis. The Hut Host is in complete charge of the building, utilities, and fireplaces. Children are welcome and must be supervised by a parent at all times. Keller is completely volunteer run and operates on a share-the-work basis. Those staying at the hut are asked to share in daily clean-up duties.
Garbage and Waste
Visitors must take all of their food with them when they leave. All garbage and recyclables are bagged and taken down the hill by those using the hut.
Restrictions
Smoking is not permitted inside the hut or back deck on open weekends. No pets are allowed. On open weekends, no noise producing equipment (radios, TV's, CD players, musical instruments, etc) is allowed unless agreed upon by all present or as noted in the Activity Schedule. Sleeping is confined to lofts only. No sleeping in the public rooms unless approved by Hut Host.
Upkeep
Keller Ski Hut is maintained by volunteers and we ask that everyone treat it with respect for future generations. Everyone who visits shares chores to ready the hut for the next weekend. Work parties will be held 2-3 times a year for deep cleaning and general maintenance. Everyone is welcome to join in on a work party.
Group Reservations
Sierra Club and non-Sierra Club groups are welcome to reserve the hut. Your group leader should contact Mike Adams at adamsfreerange@aol.com for more information. Examples of past groups who enjoyed a stay at the Keller Hut are: First Aid training, navigation courses, leadership training, Girl/Boy Scouts, and more. A $100 deposit is required, and $1 M certificate of liability insurance naming Sierra Club/Keller Peak Ski Hut may be required
Directions
On Hwy 18, go 5 miles east of Running Springs and turn left at a driveway 300 feet past the first Snow Valley Ski area parking entrance. If you pass the second (main) entrance you have gone to far.
The turnoff is also for the Little Green Valley trailhead.
After you turn in you will see address #35150 on a sign. From there, you will see a white metal gate and propane tank up the driveway a bit. Go through the gate, head up the driveway and take the first sharp left turn to Keller Hut. The hut is cabin #10, marked above the front door.
