I get an eerie feeling when Indiana state leaders start talking about coal1. How about you?
When it comes to moving to a clean energy future, Indiana is a success story. In 2010 coal generation accounted for 89 percent of total power generation in Indiana. In 2023, according to the US Energy Information Administration, coal accounted for 45 percent of Indiana’s power generation2.
That’s good news for our climate and our health.
What’s scary is that some Indiana leaders are tossing around the phrase “all of the above” - when what they really mean is bailing out aging and expensive coal plants.
What does all this mean for the future of energy in Indiana?
Come find out with us! The 2025 legislative session is approaching and I would like to invite you to join our Seeds of Democracy call next Thursday, November 7 at 7:00 PM for a legislative briefing and to hear about volunteer opportunities with the Sierra Club.
2025 is shaping up to be an impactful year for our environment at the Indiana General Assembly. From coal bailouts, to protecting clean water and increasing funding for conservation there are many environmental policy impacts on the horizon. And we can be ready with your help.
Your voice can make the difference and what a treat it would be to make 2025 a year for clean air, clean water, and clean energy policy.
