Speaker Series "Quality Control of Carp in the Lakes of Lake County"

Alana Bartolai

Woods & Wetlands invites you to join us on Sunday October 20 at 7:00 pm for the first event this fall. Our Zoom program will be focused on work to improve the conditions of the lakes of Lake County. We welcome Alana Bartolai, Ecological Services Program Coordinator at Lake County Health Department. Alana will share what is going on behind the scenes.

Do you know how many lakes we have in our county? Not only do we live on the shores of Lake Michigan, but also, we have nearly 200 lakes as well as many ponds. Lake County has 400 miles of streams and thousands of acres of wetlands. It is obvious where Lake County’s name originates.

Lake County was created by the Illinois State Legislature in 1839. Our county government is charged with providing safe waters for citizens to swim and recreate in, monitoring the status of vector borne diseases and be a technical resource for community ecological concerns, canoeing, kayaking and fishing.

Alana will focus on one major project in place for decades to control carp populations. Learn about the habits of these pesky invasive species and what is being done to reduce the nutrient enrichment in impaired Lakes in Lake County. We guarantee you will be amazed by the data that has been collected in the past and present, and the techniques these scientists employ.

Register to receive login information for this October 20 Speaker Series. The program will begin at 7:00 PM and is family friendly.
