December 2019 |
Over sixty people attended the public information sessions on December 3rd at the main Peoria Library to learn about grants available for the Edwards Power Plant Air Pollution Supplemental Environmental Projects. This funding was made available through agreements between several environmental groups who had sued the coal-fired power plant for thousands of air pollution permit violations and the Vistra Corporation, current owner of the plant.
$8.6 million in grant awards will be available for categories of projects to improve air quality in the Peoria area: environmental projects( energy efficiency, solar, and bus electrification); lung health; and job training and retraining grants. See the Natural Resources Defense Council website for details on project eligibility, application requirements , the grant application form, and a calendar of key dates. Sierra Club, Natural Resources Defense Council, and the Respiratory Health Association were involved with the litigation.
