Sierra Club Illinois Announces Endorsement of Climate Champions in the Midterm Elections
Chicago, IL. -- Today, Sierra Club Illinois announced its endorsements in the November midterm election for Illinois constitutional offices, U.S. Congress, Illinois General Assembly, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, Cook County Board, Lake County Board, DuPage County Forest Preserve, Peoria County Board, and Illinois Supreme Court. Sierra Club Illinois has also endorsed the Cook County Forest Preserve referendum and the Workers’ Rights Amendment. Sierra Club’s full list of midterm election endorsements can be found here.
“Our rights are on the ballot nationally, on the state level, and in our local communities this November. Now more than ever, we need leaders who will fight to ensure all Illinoisans have the right to clean air, clean water, and equitable communities. From the legislators in the General Assembly who will implement the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act, to the county boards who will ensure communities are able to build and develop new renewable energy resources, climate champions are critical on every level of government,” said Sierra Club Illinois Deputy Director Dominique Salice. “Sierra Club is proud to endorse candidates on the ballot this November who are committed to investing in policies and programs that will bring equitable clean energy to all Illinoisans while continuing to protect our water and wild places.”
Sierra Club will be running a mail and field program grounded in traditional grassroots and community organizing tactics to activate the organization’s nearly 30,000 members and supporters across the state in support of these candidates.
“Thanks to the passage of Illinois’ Climate and Equitable Jobs Act in 2021 and the federal Inflation Reduction Act in 2022, Illinois is uniquely positioned to make significant strides in our efforts to achieve 100% renewable energy, prioritize clean energy investments in environmental justice and working communities, and improve the resiliency of our electric grid. Illinois needs strong leaders who will fight to ensure hard-working Illinoisans benefit from this legislation, and we are proud to recommend candidates who will do just that,” said Sierra Club Illinois Political Chair Barbara Hill.
Sierra Club’s contacts with Illinois voters on behalf of endorsed candidates are funded by Sierra Club Illinois PAC. Copies of our reports are available from the State Board of Elections in Springfield, Illinois.
