G Webber named Sierra Club Georgia Chapter Director

ATLANTA — The Sierra Club Georgia Chapter is proud to announce that G Webber (they/them) has been named Chapter Director. In addition to being the youngest Director in the Chapter’s history, Webber is also the first openly queer person to lead the Chapter.

“Georgia is a state full of potential to address the climate crisis,” Webber said. “We have a once-in-a generation opportunity in our fight to protect Georgia's environment.”

Born and raised in Georgia, Webber grew up in Dunwoody and graduated from Georgia College in 2015 with a degree in political science. Before joining the Sierra Club staff, they worked in fundraising for local and statewide political campaigns.

“Our state is deeply affected by climate change, with communities across Georgia feeling its devastating effects every day,” Webber said. “Sierra Club is uniquely suited to organize Georgians to address these issues and create a more sustainable Georgia. I’m so excited to lead our Chapter to create a better Georgia.”

In 2023, the Georgia Chapter is celebrating its 40th anniversary. Over those four decades, the Chapter has built a people-powered movement to create lasting change, advocating for a just transition to clean energy, an equitable expansion of transit, and the protection of our forests, coastlands, and everything in between.

Webber started at Sierra Club in 2019 when they were first hired as a Development Associate. After leading the Chapter’s fundraising efforts for two years, Webber was promoted to Deputy Director in July 2021 and took over as director on an interim basis last June.

“Our vision for a sustainable and accessible Georgia is in direct opposition to our opponents' plans to scar our environment with extractive mining, bankrupt families with outrageous energy bills, and pollute our air and water,” Webber said.

“G has been a great asset to the Georgia Chapter of the Sierra Club, and I know they will continue to do outstanding work in this new role,” Curt Thompson, Chair of the Chapter’s Executive Committee said. “From protecting the Okefenokee to pushing for a just transition to clean energy to electing environmental champions at all levels of government, G will be a forceful and passionate advocate for Georgia’s communities.”
