The Big Bend group does more than have great programs and fantastic outings. We have also been active on the local and state-level. A number of our members are are servering Sierra Club Committees: Randie Denker - Legal Committee. Gary Cochran Conservation Committee, Grant Gelhardt, Executive, Conservation and Communication Committee, Craig Diamond Executive Committee, Leighanne Boone Energy Committee, and Jim Davis Energy Committee.

Over the last year the Big Bend Sierra Club also has been active in local issues, opposing the drilling in the Apalachicola River basin, opposing the proposed the power line going through  Jefferson in Leon County,. We were part of a larger Coalition pushing the city of Tallahassee to move to 100% renewable energy by 2050. On the state level the Big Bend Sierra Club was he primary drafters of a number of letters sent the state regarding using the VW settlement money set aside for electric buses, revising the Black Bear Management Plan and opposing Nestle's proposal pump water from Ginnie Springs for their bottling plant.

So yes we have great outings and great programs here in Tallahassee but we are also working on making an impact not only in the Big Bend area but also throughout the State of Florida, to make Florida a better place to live.
