2023 Executive Committee Election Results
Congratulations to the newly and re-elected Chapter Executive Committee and Regional Group Executive Committee members!
In Loving Memory of Barbara Kelsey
Please enjoy this video celebrating Barbara Kelsey, Loma Prieta Chapter Coordinator for 14 years, and her many contributions to the Chapter. The video was created for Barbara's retirement last December, we are sorry to share that our dear Barbara passed, expectedly and quickly, before the video was completed. We all sorely miss her.
If you've called or visited the Loma Prieta Chapter offices in the past 14 years, you heard the voice of Chapter Coordinator Barbara Kelsey. Hundreds of thousands of residents, locally and across the state, have been blessed by her laughter, kindness and organizational efficiency.
Barbara was profoundly committed to the Loma Prieta Chapter and was an immense part of our successes. I am sad to report that our dear Barbara passed last December and is deeply missed by all that knew her. Her family has invited the Loma Prieta family to join in a Celebration of Life. We hope to see you there.
Visit the Bay Alive website to learn more about our education and training programs and local campaigns.
The San Francisco Bay is a vital asset we all share. We're fighting to restore and protect the Bay while enhancing community resilience to sea level rise using nature-based solutions.
Welcome to the Loma Prieta Chapter of the Sierra Club!
We are the local face of the national Sierra Club, and as such we offer local members and supporters the opportunity to get involved and actively contribute of their talents and skills to the environmental work of the Sierra Club. A lot of other enviro organizations put your dues to work for the environment, but we offer you a way to do that plus physically make a difference. And the opportunities extend all the way from helping build hiking trails to helping haul trash out of a nearby creek to persuading legislators at a city council meeting to pass a riparian corridor ordinance to planning a campaign to get your neighbors involved in an action designed to improve public transit. Not to mention going hiking.
We have a wide variety of opportunities for volunteers to become involved, whether you want to:
-
Promote a conservation issue dear to your heart,
-
Get involved in political action in support of the environment
-
Help educate new members through the efforts of a regional group, or
-
Get involved in outings for your own health and to promote the value of open spaces.
(Read our full welcome message.)
Once again, thank you for being a part of the Loma Prieta community. Our Chapter is one of the strongest in the country because of the members who choose to become involved. We hope you'll choose to do so as well.
Get OUTDOORS!
Picture yourself in the outdoors, away from the trappings of civilization and listening to the rustling of the wind in the trees complimented by the conversation between two nearby warblers. Or maybe you hear the rushing of a creek as the water gently cascades down next to a cluster of purple lupine blossoms. Or perhaps you see the glacial blue of an alpine lake amidst the stark granite of an amazingly steep, snow-capped ridge high in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Those are some of the joys of the outdoors, and they happen quite regularly when you participate in our various outings sections.
Check out our schedule of outings on our Calendar (Clicking on the “List” or “Print” tabs on the top of the calendar give a view that some will find easier to relate to. If you would like to find more information on the various outings sections that are sponsoring the events, go to our Outings page (and click on the name of the section.
