Petition to LIRR
The Long Island Group of the Atlantic Chapter and other environmental organizations on Long Island have recently petitioned the Long Island Railroad (LIRR) to enhance the train stations in Hicksville and Jamaica to conform with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) building standards, or even net-zero energy standards in their make-overs, and also to install solar panels at the stations. Long Island Group Energy Chair Lilia Factor, Esq., spearheaded the effort on behalf of the Sierra Club, calling for the $121 million reconstruction projects of the two LIRR stations to help meet the goals of New York State’s Clean Energy Standard and Reforming the Energy Vision objectives.
