Chris Burger: Broome County (Whitney Point)

I have over 30 years experience as a Sierra Club member, serving on the PubCom for the Sierra Atlantic, the Energy Committee, Co-Chairing the Beyond Fossil Gas & Oil Committee, Chairing the Zero Waste Committee and serving as a member of the National Sierra Club Zero Waste Policy Team. In my community, I was part of the effort to stop a trash incinerator, but more importantly, I wrote our county's recycling plan and have lived a zero waste lifestyle for close to 30 years. I was part of the effort to stop "fracking." I also wrote a grant for the first weatherization program that has since been duplicated across the country. I built an energy efficient home that is powered completely by renewable energy. I co-founded and currently chair the Binghamton Regional Sustainability Coalition, a group promotes sustainability, operates a number of renewable energy programs, as well as an annual Earth Fest, a zero waste initiative, and a local food co-operative. I serve on our County's Environmental Management Council. In other words, while being a strong environmental advocate and have fought damaging projects and policies, I try to develop real solutions and have tried to "walk the talk" whenever possible. cwburger@frontiernet.net
