This summer, the Atlantic Chapter welcomed a new staff member to our team. Elizabeth Ahearn, an Albany area native, is the Chapter’s new Conservation Program Associate. Liz has a background in Environmental Science (BS, SUNY Oneonta) and Marine Conservation & Policy (MA, Stony Brook University).
In addition to her strong science skills, Liz has a knack for outreach, communication and design. In her previous position with Clean and Healthy New York, an advocacy organization focused on disclosure of toxic chemicals and other ingredients in consumer products, she strengthened the organization’s communication strategy and expanded media relations. In this position, she gained an understanding of New York’s legislative process and insight into the power of lobbying.
During her time with the Marine Program of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County, she worked on an array of projects, including organizing stewardship volunteer events, hosting public outreach programs, designing promotional and educational materials, and conducting field work related to coastal habitat restoration.
In her free time, Liz enjoys hiking, baking, scuba diving and adventuring with her family’s beagle, Bella. She fits beautifully with the Sierra Club’s mandate to enjoy, explore and protect the planet.
The Atlantic Chapter is thrilled to have Liz on board the Atlantic Chapter team, and we’re especially eager for her to apply her talents to our campaign initiatives on environmental policy.
