Carl Arnold At Large 2015 Election

All my life, I’ve supported various progressive causes, starting at thirteen, traveling alone to DC for a civil rights demonstration. Since then, my energy has been directed against the Vietnam War and for veterans’ rights, against nuclear power, for greater democracy (as a member of the Green Party), and now in the Sierra Club for a sane approach to climate chaos.

My particular focus has been on hydraulic fracturing since June 2008, both upstate and down. I’m in the Chapter’s Energy Committee and Gas Drilling Task Force, and represented the chapter at the first two Chapter Chair Assemblies in California.

I’ve given speeches at rallies, lobbied in Albany and New York City, written and edited articles and flyers, co-wrote the first legislative bill to ban fracking in April 2010, been interviewed on radio and cable TV numerous times, and helped organize forums and screenings to publicize the impossibility of allowing further development of fossil and nuclear fuels to threaten our lives.

As Chapter Chair since last January, I’ve worked closely with Vice Chair Erin Riddle (acting as co-chairs), concentrating on getting our fundraising reestablished as well as various parts of the Chapter and Club to speak with each other. There are now closer ties with the Beyond Coal Campaign, the Foundation and the NYC ICO (Outings). Erin and I also believe that it’s essential to attract new members of all backgrounds and ages, and that long-time members share their hard-earned experience and expertise with younger and newer Sierrans to ensure the growth and vitality of our Chapter.

If you see a name on this candidate list that you don’t recognize, please consider giving that person the opportunity to be active at the Chapter level. We need new blood.
