Thelma Fellows

Nominating Committee candidate

At present, I serve as alternate NYC Sierra Club delegate to the Atlantic Chapter. Recently, I chaired the NYC Group, and the NYC Sierra Club Photography Committee for four years. This is my third year on the NYC ExCom, and I’m on their Political Committee and TPP Task Force. In chairing the Tabling and Outreach Committee, our objective is to provide environmental programs in the boroughs of Queens and Staten Island in addition to those presented in Manhattan. This fall, we will present programs on producing chocolate sustainably, indoor and outdoor composting, sewer overflow management in heavy rainstorms, and pre-cycling and recycling leading toward zero waste.

My areas of concern are reducing waste, increasing recycling, and educating the public regarding the rise of environmentally related birth defects in drilling areas. Pesticide relationship to child learning disability is also evident. Additionally, I’d like to focus on ridding the environment of plastic bags statewide as NYC is attempting to do locally.

I grew up in Montana, lived in several western states and China, and moved to New York City in 1990 from Alaska. Professionally, I am a bilingual speech and language pathologist working with preschool children. Contact: thelmafellows@gmail.com
