Solar juggernaut not slowing down

Today, a total of 8.5 gigawatts of solar electric capacity is online in the U.S.

According to a new report by the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), in the first three months of the year, the solar industry installed 723 megawatts of clean, reliable and inexhaustible solar energy--the best first quarter of any given year for the industry, but the good news doesn’t stop there: solar accounted for over 48 percent of all new electric capacity installed in the U.S. first quarter.

“The reality is clear: we are on the cusp of a new solar revolution in the U.S., driven by the rapid expansion of distributed solar generation,” said Susanna Murley, SEIA’s digital media manager.

“It’s more important now, more than ever, that our state and federal politicians know that we want more clean, renewable and inexhaustible energy from solar. We’ve got momentum. Let your politicians know.”

As Forbes recently stated: “the solar juggernaut is not slowing down.” An estimated 5.2 GW of new solar is projected to come online this year.

You can help keep the momentum going by getting a quote for a rooftop solar power system through the Atlantic Chapter’s Solar Homes Program. Through the Chapter’s partnership with Sungevity, you can “go solar” with little or no upfront cost by leasing a system.
