The National Park Service has issued a Draft Management Plan of the Gateway National Recreation area. Jamaica Bay is part of Gateway The Draft is now open for public comments! To submit a comment, click here.
Suggested comments/talking points:
- The National Park Service make a firm commitment of money, staffing and other resources to the protection and enhancement of the park's natural resources, especially in Jamaica Bay.
- They need to hire a refuge manager trained in ecology, wildlife and habitat management to work on site at the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge.
- Resource management be a top priority in the park, not recreation. Recreation should be secondary and allowed where appropriate.
