Chapter needs cash to sustain anti-fracking radio campaign

by Ken Baer

The Atlantic Chapter has embarked on a radio ad campaign in the five counties of the Southern Tier (an area referred to as the Sacrifice Zone), where fracking would take place under a plan leaked by Governor Cuomo's administration. These ads are focused on two audiences:

• Anti-Frackers, who we are encouraging to phone Cuomo to express opposition to his plan to frack the Southern Tier; and

•  Cuomo himself and his operatives, who we want to know that they are being put in an unfavorable light by virtue of the governor’s proposal.

Your tax-deductible contributions are needed now to keep the pressure on Cuomo.

Our 30-second spot has been running on WCDO FM (100.9) and AM (1490) out of Sidney, which covers parts of Chenango, Delaware and Otsego counties, as well as on WHWK FM (98.1) and WNBF AM (1290) in Binghamton. To hear the ad, click here.  The Binghamton spots are coinciding with a 60-second educational ad put on by Catskill Mountainkeeper.

In order to keep these radio ads running, we need your financial assistance.

We are also working on producing a 60-second ad that might feature a farmer, fisher or resident from a fracking area, and would like to start running that ad in a third market in either Elmira or Corning.  Since the Chapter's finances are strained, the Gas Drilling Task Force agreed to finance the radio ads with new money which we are encouraging you to contribute. Time is of the essence, and we need to raise another $1500.

These contributions are tax-deductible. So, please help out to whatever degree you are comfortable. It would be greatly appreciated!

Checks can be made out to the Sierra Club Foundation, with “Atlantic Chapter Fracking Project” in the memo line, and can be mailed to Sierra Club, P.O. Box 886, Syosset, NY 11791.
