Residents Gather to Protest Border Wall along San Pedro River

Despite Homeland Security restricting access to the site, dozens of local residents gathered at the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area Friday to protest the wall now being imposed across the precious, free-flowing river. The San Pedro River is the only place where wildlife can cross the border for about 50 miles of Arizona's southeast corner, the rest of it having already been walled off. Flooding is a major concern, and portions of the wall's foundation were recently washed away during a monsoon rain event.
Check out coverage of the protest in the AZ Republic, AZ Daily Star and on AZPM, Tucson’s NPR affiliate. |
Deer Found trapped by Border Wall near Oregon Pipe
|
Please share and retweet: this buck was found Sunday, August 16 near Dos Lomitas, east of the Lukeville Port of Entry. This is an area where deer often cross south into Mexico during the hottest months of the year to access water and forage in the alfalfa fields east of Sonoyta, Sonora. This was likely a vehicle strike, as the deer wandered back and forth along the wall looking for a way to cross. A number of deer have been spotted in this same area this week. |
