PAST EVENT
The Forest Committee presents the second in a series of programs concerning wildfire:
“Living with Wildfire, what can we do?"
The best evidence we have is that our magnificent chaparral-laced mountains in Southern California – including the San Gabriel Mountains -- have for millennia featured intense, fast-burning, all consuming fires. These typically spread rapidly in Santa Ana winds. The challenge is that we have built hundreds of thousands of home in harms way, putting firefighters and homeowners at growing risk every year, especially with climate change, as 2020 is our witness. How can we learn to cope with the new normal? Dr. Jon Keeley, wildfire expert from the United States Geological Survey, will offer his five recommendations after he covers the nature of chaparral wildfires, which are often misunderstood.
