SoCal events for National Drive Electric Week in September

Need some quick facts about electric vehicles? With National Drive Electric Week coming up from Sept. 12 to 20, we've got you covered. Download the Sierra Club's Electric Vehicle Guide to learn more. Here's a sample of why it's important to join the electric revolution:

  • Each year, American Each year, American passenger cars and trucks burn 121 billion gallons of gasoline and spew upwards of 3 trillion pounds of carbon pollution into the air.
  • In almost in every region of the country, carbon emissions from the electricity sources used to power EVs are lower than the emissions from conventional cars (doing a full lifecycle analysis).
  • Most new fully electric vehicles can drive 70-100 miles on one charge.
  • There are currently more than 20 fully electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles available at US dealerships.

Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune will come to Los Angeles for a noon press conference with Mayor Eric Garcetti, state Sen. Kevin De Leon (District 24), Chris Paine, director of the documentary “Who Killed the Electric Car?” and “Revenge of the Electric Car” and Nascar racer and member of the "Racing Extinction" team Leilani Munter.
 
Also actor and activist Alexandra Paul will be giving out a grand prize of a Pedego Electric Bicycle valued at $3,000.

Time: 9 a.m. to noon
Location: Houghton Park, 6301 Myrtle Ave., Long Beach, CA 90805
 
Come see electric buses, cars, 18-wheelers, bicycles and motorcycles and learn about the benefits of going electric. Join Rep. Alan Lowenthal (D-47th District), Rep. Janice Hahn (D-44th District), state Sen. Ricardo Lara (D-33rd District) and Long Beach Councilman Rex Richardson as well as members of Sierra Club, Tesla Clubs in LA and Orange counties and other environmental and community organizations. The event is free and open to the public.
