I am pleased to announce that Angélica González has been hired as the new Conservation Program Manager for the Sierra Club Angeles Chapter with a start date of Monday, Sept. 29, 2014.
Angélica brings two years experience as the Environmental Science Workshop Coordinator for the City of Watsonville, CA, where she managed 12 staff providing workshops with local schools, and organized 20 field trips per year for students and their families to go camping, go on outings to beaches and wetlands, and visit a local aquarium. She helped to create the STEM curriculum for Pajaro Valley Unified School District Science After‐School Program, and managed grants funded by Hewlett Packard and the Santa Cruz Community Foundation. On behalf of the City, she managed budgets, payroll, and contracts involving the City, School District and County. She also served on the Community Science Network Board helping to create proposals for grant funding, review grants, and meet with funding organizations. She also represented the City as a Board Member of the Watsonville Wetlands Watch organization.
Angélica worked for one year as a Water Conservation Supervisor for a water consultant where she managed residential and commercial water conservation programs, maintained water consumption databases, conducted water conservation training for city workers, and provided bilingual customer service about water conservation. Prior to working at Pasadena, she interned with the City of Pomona for four years in the city’s environmental education and outreach program.
Angélica has a BA degree in Environmental Studies with a minor in Spanish from California State University Monterey Bay in Seaside, CA, and is currently working towards an MA degree in Education with an emphasis on bilingual education in urban schools at California State University Los Angeles.
Angélica grew up in Pomona, CA, and became a Sierra Club member at age 19. She has just moved from Watsonville back to Pomona to be near family living there.
