The Alabama Rivers Alliance, Energy Alabama and Flint River Conservation Association are thrilled to bring the Wild & Scenic Film Festival to Huntsville for the 6th year with our best program to date, including all five films from the 2018 Southern Exposure Film Fellowship!

The Wild & Scenic Film Festival offers incredible stories of adventure and conservation, paired with stunning cinematography. This year, we’ve selected films that offer our audience a journey into some of the most beautiful places on earth, complemented by stories of inspiration, activism and finding solutions to restore our planet! You will leave feeling inspired and motivated to go out and make a difference in your community and the world.
At the festival, you’ll learn new ideas from a selection of inspiring environmental films with hard hitting topics including water issues, wilderness preservation, citizen activism and more. You’ll experience the adrenaline of kayaking the wildest rivers, climbing the highest peaks and trekking across the globe with adventure films from around the world. You’ll explore the issues and movements with leading environmental activists and professionals. And you’ll celebrate the natural and wild world around us all.

Outings
Hike Ratings
Easy - Less than 5 miles, no serious elevation changes, no trail obstacles.
Moderate - 5 to 10 miles, some elevation changes or rough trail (rock hopping), or trail obstacles such as creek crossings.
Strenuous - Over 10 miles, substantial elevation change, rocky, obstructed or nonexistent trail.
Exploratory - any event where the leader has not experienced the event; may fit any class above.
Note. Participants of Sierra Club outings are required to sign a waiver.
Tuesday, January 1 - Get Rid of the Hangover New Year’s Day Hike. Easy.
Meet at Sam Denham's house, 4333 Chickasaw Dr. in Huntsville, at 1:00pm for an afternoon hike in Monte Sano State Park. Hot cider and more by the fireplace after the hike. Please bring finger food to share. For more information, please contact Sam Denham at 256-539-1033.
Saturday, January 5 - Hike to the Burritt. Strenuous.
We will hike to Burritt Museum primarily following the Bluffline, Waterline and Wagon trails. We will pass by a nice Waterfall and will get a good view of the city from the observation patio at Burritt Museum. This hike is rated strenuous, particularly because of the steep hike up Waterline Trail that will require handholds in couple of places. 1100 feet elevation gain and 1100 descent. Hike is approximately 6.85 miles. Heavy rain or icy conditions will cancel this hike. Meet at the Land Trust Bankhead Trailhead parking lot at 9:00am. Sunday, January 6 - Rainbow Mountain Hike. Easy.
Join us for a rain or shine hike on Rainbow Mountain. This will be a relatively easy 4 mile hike with about 300 ft elevation gain over uneven and rocky terrain. Dress for the weather, including sturdy shoes. Bring water, snacks, and a camera. Leashed dogs are welcome. Saturday, January 12 - Base to Summit Monte Sano Hike. Strenuous.
Join us as we climb Monte Sano from the Oak Park Trailhead up to Monte Sano State Park, then loop back down to Oak Park. This will be about 10 miles and ~1200' elevation gain.
